About The Author
Hey, I’m C. Harwick, a web designer stationed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I’m studying Political Science. This is the third incarnation of this site - that is to say, the third “completely different” look, called “Waccamaw” - which resides on its 4th (and hopefully last) host, NearlyFreeSpeech.
I’m a proud Mac user, as you can probably tell from a lot of elements on the site. Apple doesn’t just inspire design with their interface elements, but they initiate entire design trends. Remember when everyone started making shiny-looking webpage elements? Apple started that. Know the reflective effect that’s making its way around the web now? Apple started that too. My tools of choice are SubEthaEdit TextMate for coding, and Photoshop for graphics. Recently, I’ve also been using Flash for logo design as well. The blog is powered by Wordpress.
I am a Christian first and foremost: I believe in the inerrancy of Scripture and Christ’s bodily resurrection. Politically, I tend to advocate a separation between religion and government, but for a different reason than most who hold that position, and economically I tend to be more conservative than not. Musically I’m the most fond at the moment of folk, medieval, and European metal, especially when the latter is combined with the former two, though there are pieces of (most) any genre that I appreciate.
Random facts, you ask?
- Seafood, Mexican, and Italian food are pretty delicious.
- Martin Luther and Karl Barth are a few of my heroes.
- I play the bagpipes and some mean fooseball.
- I’m picking up German with the goal of visiting in the Spring
- Traffic circles and music snobs: not cool.
- Akismet has eaten 10,391 spams since it was activated in May 2007.
About The Blog
The blog is a way for me to work out in my own mind and in a coherent fashion thoughts that bounce around in my mind. I make no pretensions that any of what I write is new to the face of the earth (though most of it is new and cool to me) or that I’m a good writer. Much of what I write may come across as dogmatic, but the voice of a lot of it is me trying to convince myself of something I’m not yet sure of through the arguments I present. Though I’d love to convince people of one thing or another, my goal is mainly to get other people to think through the issues we face as a Church and as a Society (with the occasional self-indulgent idle musings like music reviews).
